Close the till at the end of your shift: count the cash, decide what stays in the drawer for the next shift, and put the rest in an envelope for the Safe.
Who: Front Desk staff who are allowed to run the Front Desk till.
Where: Cash in the sidebar, Close Shift.
Before you start
- Finish every payment, charge and refund of your shift.
- Count the cash in the drawer, per currency.
Steps
- Click Cash, then Close Shift.
- Enter your staff number, then your PIN.
- In Enter Closing Balance, type what you counted for each currency, and click Correct.
-
In Leave and send to the Safe, each currency shows:
- Counted: what you typed.
- Leave: what stays in the drawer as the next shift's float. It starts at the float your shift opened with.
- To the Safe: the rest, which goes in the envelope.
Change Leave if needed, then click Close the till.
If the drawer does not balance
When your count is short or over, SAAM shows This drawer does not balance with the difference, for example "EGP 40.00 short".
- A supervisor of the Front Desk enters their staff number and PIN, then clicks Approve and close.
- If no supervisor is there, click No supervisor available, then Close unapproved. The close is recorded as unapproved and sent to Finance.
You can't approve your own drawer.
What happens next
- SAAM says Till closed and tells you what to put in the envelope, for example "Put EGP 850.00 in the envelope for the Safe; Finance counts it."
- Put that amount in the envelope and hand it over the way your hotel does. Finance counts it into the Safe.
- If the drawer was short or over, SAAM says Closed out of balance and Finance is told.
- You are signed out of the computer. The next shift opens the till with what you left. See Open the till.
Rules and limits
- Leave can't be more than you counted.
- The Room Service till takes no cash, so closing it sends nothing to the Safe.
